School Council

At Kelvin Grove Primary School, we encourage all pupils to share their views and opinions through a range of different opportunities.

Our School Council consists of representatives from each class from Years 1 to 6, including the Rainbow.  Councilors are elected by their peers on an annual basis.  The School Council then work together on changes that matter to them and the future of our school.  Ideas are then shared back to the classes who, in turn, give contributions to be taken back to our next meeting. Ideas range from matters arising in classes, the whole school and also within the school's community.

The year we are working with the WE Movement (https://www.we.org/gb/) to support the children in establishing their voice and making a change happen.

Buddies

Kelvin Grove has a team of 40 ‘buddies’, from years 4 and 5, who are trained in peer mediation techniques and promote positive playtimes. They are recruited by school council annually and meet regularly with our learning mentor. Visible in their green vests, buddies assist midday meals supervisors at lunchtimes and look out for vulnerable pupils in the playground. They are highly respected and valued members of the school community.  Some buddies graduate to becoming a prefect when they move up to year six.

Play Supporters

Play supporters are recruited from year 3 upwards to help other children with their play. They learn how to organise games and work successfully in all playgrounds.
