School Council

At Kelvin Grove Primary School, we encourage all pupils to share their views and opinions through a range of different opportunities. In particular, our School Council enables elected pupils from year 2 to year 6 a voice in how the school is run.  Our Councilors act as representatives and role models for other pupils which helps to inform staff and influences decision making. Our main aim is to give all pupils at Kelvin Grove the chance to make changes that matter.

Kelvin Grove has a team of 40 ‘buddies’, from years 4 and 5, who are trained in peer mediation techniques and promote positive playtimes. They are recruited by school council annually and meet regularly with our learning mentor. Visible in their green vests, buddies assist midday meals supervisors at lunchtimes and look out for vulnerable pupils in the playground. They are highly respected and valued members of the school community.  Some buddies graduate to becoming a prefect when they move up to year six.

Play Supporters

Play supporters are recruited from year 3 upwards to help other children with their play. They learn how to organise games and work successfully in all playgrounds.
